Fall 2024

We’ve had a busy few months and in order to limit the number of emails we send out to you, we’ve corralled everything you need to know into one spot.

As you can see, we’ve got a new website! We hope you’ll take some time to look around and let us know what you think.

The Big Stuff

If we have your cell phone number on file, at some point in the coming days you’ll be asked to input a unique code that has been sent directly to your phone for verification. Moving forward, you’ll use this method each time you log in for added security. You can find more details [here], but the process is quick and seamless.

As always, if you run into any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out by phone or email—we’re here to help!

We’re excited to offer SMS (text messaging) updates for convenient reminders, like meeting times and directions to our offices. You don’t need to do anything to get started. You may receive an opt-in message from us; feel free to verify the message with whomever you usually speak with at Verecan.

Rest assured, we will never use SMS for confidential information, advice, or to request any private information from you or anything else that requires a direct conversation with our team. If you have any questions, reach out!

Due to possible Canada Post service disruptions starting as early as this week, here are key updates to ensure uninterrupted service:

Payments

  • Switch to EFT: To avoid delays, we recommend switching to EFT for faster, more secure payments.
  • Courier Option: If EFT isn’t possible, we can send cheques by courier with a $25 fee.

Statements & Reports

  • Client Portal: Access your statements and reports instantly through our secure online portal.
  • Mail Option: If the portal isn’t feasible, we can arrange for printed documents by mail.

We’re here to help you make this transition smooth. Please reach out for assistance with EFT or portal setup.

Quarterly Updates

We have a new Barenaked Quarterly Market Update as well as Manager’s Notes on both the Verecan Global Equity Fund and the recently renamed Verecan Global Income Fund which was formerly the Majestic Select Partners Global Income Fund. You can find out more about the name change here, and of course if you have any questions, let us know.

Team Updates

We have a few new team members and we’re excited to welcome them! Tolu Adepoju in Burlington and Jack Nguyen in Etobicoke. In the coming days you’ll get to know more about these two, as their bio videos get added to the aforementioned new website!

Verecan in the Wild

WHERE WE’VE BEEN AND WHERE WE’RE GOING

We’ve been on the road with speaking events in Nelson, Powell River, Vaughan, Burlington, Dartmouth and soon we’ll be in Truro (date TBD).

This time the presentation is on Conflicts of Interest in the Financial Services Industry. We’ve been talking about this a lot lately…we’re a little mad about it. You can listen to a podcast on the subject, or read this piece in Saltwire. Once we’ve finished the road show, we’ll be posting the video here. If you’d like someone to send you a link when it’s available, please email us at ClientExperience@verecan.com and we’ll make sure to reach out.

Josh Sheluk’s wisdom was sought for this piece on the TD Bank debacle. (Again…see our “Conflicts of Interest” content.) He also weighed in on Canadians’ saving habits.

Dylan Wilson shared insights on the housing market and on retirement planning.

Coming up fast we have our annual Toy Drives happening in Nelson on November 24th (in partnership with our friends at the Adventure Hotel and with the support of Nelson’s First Responders) and Powell River on December 1st (with our neighbours and friends at Underwriters Insurance). This is why Colin’s beard gets much more beardy this time of year; he’s gearing up to play Santa for us!

We also have the annual Christmas Matching Campaign with Brigadoon Village coming up in December and we just finished a Holiday Lights Raffle, also in support of Brigadoon Village.

Until Next Time

We’re here to help! Got questions or feedback about this newsletter—or anything else? Just ask! (Though if it’s an existential crisis, we might need a coffee first.)
